워싱턴 정신대문제 대책위원회(정대위) 는 오는 11 월 30 일 (금)과 12 월 1 일 (토)에 펼쳐지는 학술
심포지엄, 전시회, 창립 20 주년 기념행사에 귀하를 초청합니다.
1992 년 ‘와싱톤 한인교회’에서 위안부 황금주 할머니의 “내 청춘을 돌려 달라” 는 가슴 아픈
증언을 듣고,
워싱턴 지역 단체장들, 각 교회대표들, 언론인들을
포함 정신대문제에 뜻있는 교포들이 모여 ‘정대위’를
설립한지 올해로 20 주년이 됩니다.
지난 20 년간 정대위는 미주 주류 사회에 정신대문제에 대한 교육, 홍보를 통한 바른 역사관의 저변확대를
위한 자료수집, 사진 전시회, 심포지엄, 세미나등의 많은 행사를 주관해 왔습니다.
2007 년 7 월 30 일 범교포 풀뿌리운동으로 일궈낸 일본군 위안부문제 결의안 HR121 통과는 지난 20년
정대위활동의
정점을 찍은 감격스러운 결과라 할 수 있습니다.

모시는 기념식에는 위안부 생존자이신 이용수 할머니의
증언시간도 준비되어 있습니다. 국제인권
역사에 큰 획을 긋게되는 이번 행사가 영광스러운 산 증인의
장으로 거듭나고자 하오니 부디 참석하시어 정대위 역사의 새로운 장을 함께 열어 주실것을
부탁 드립니다.

WCCW’s 20th Anniversary Ceremony & Symposium/Art
Exhibition
In
order to look to the future, one must look back on the past. With that notion
in mind,
on Nov 30 & Dec 1, 2012, WCCW will host a symposium and exhibition
by world renowned
artists commemorating the history of WCCW, celebrating 20
years of activism. The exhibition
and symposium examines relevant issues
surrounding former “comfort women”.
We
are delighted to host our guests of honor, survivor Yong Soo Lee and Hon.
Congressman Mike Honda, along with the participating presenters and artists.
Please join us for this special event to recognize the sacrifices of former
“comfort women” and reaffirm WCCW’s mission to have the Japanese
government offer
an official “apology and accept responsibility in a clear and unequivocal
manner”
(HR-121) for the atrocities
committed against 200,000 young women during World War II.
