Note: Everyone who attends this workshop will be given a free copy of Nancy Carlson's full-length, award-winning collection of poetry called KINGS HIGHWAY. In addition, everyone will have their choice of free copies of a multitude of past issues of contemporary poetry journals, including POETRY and THE GEORGIA REVIEW.

About the Speaker: Nancy Naomi Carlson, Ph.D., is a poet, translator, and editor, who has won grants from the NEA, Maryland Arts Council, and Arts & Humanities Council of Montgomery County. Author of three prize-winning non-translated titles, her first collection of poetry, Kings Highway, was a co-winner for the Washington Writers’ Publishing House competition. Complications of the Heart won the Texas Review Press’ Robert Phillips Poetry Chapbook Prize and Imperfect Seal of Lips was selected for the Tennessee Chapbook Prize. She is the author of four translations from French to English, including The Nomads, My Brothers, Go Out to Drink from the Big Dipper (Seagull Books, distributed by the U. of Chicago Press) by Abdourahman Waberi, from Djibouti, which was a finalist for the Best Translated Book Award. Her forthcoming books from Seagull Books include a novel by Suzanne Dracius, from Martinique (November, 2017), a second volume of Waberi translations (Spring, 2018), and her second full-length collection of poems (Fall, 2018). She is a senior translation editor for Tupelo Quarterly.
